FRIDAY, APRIL 23
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one can come to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 (NLT2)
A woman was diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. As she was getting her things in order, she contacted her pastor and asked him to come to her house to discuss some of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at her funeral service, what Scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. She requested to be buried with her favorite Bible.
As the pastor prepared to leave, the woman suddenly remembered something else. “There’s one more thing,” she said excitedly. “What’s that?” said the pastor. The woman said, “I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.” The pastor stood looking at the woman, not knowing quite what to say. The woman explained, “In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners, when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, ‘Keep your fork.’ It was my favorite part of the meal because I knew something better was coming—like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. “So, when people see me in that casket with a fork in my hand and they ask, ‘What’s with the fork?’ I want you to tell them: ‘Keep your fork. The best is yet to come!’”
Jesus claimed to be the life and knowing Him would give us eternal life. Albert Mohler writes: “If all we need is a teacher of enlightenment, the Buddha will do. If all we need is a collection of gods for every occasion…Hinduism will do. If all we need is a tribal deity, then any tribal deity will do. If all we need is a lawgiver, Moses will do. If all we need is a set of rules and a way of devotion, Muhammad or Joseph Smith will do. If all we need is inspiration and insight into the sovereign self…Oprah will do. But if we need a Savior, only Jesus will do.” Only Jesus, is the way, the truth and the life.
We will spend eternity in one of two places. We will either spend it in hell separated from God forever or we will spend it in heaven in God’s presence forever. Only Jesus can give us eternal life in heaven. Have you placed your faith in Jesus as the only one who can save your soul?
Thank God for the certain hope we have that the best is yet to come. Praise Jesus as the one true God and unlike any other self-proclaimed religious leader.
