FRIDAY, APRIL 24
“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.”
Philippians 4:4-5 (NLT2)
PERSPECTIVE OF JOY
Do you ever walk into the grocery store and completely forget to get what you came in for? You stop and grab some of the free food samples. You see some BOGO deals and grab a few. You might be a little hungry and get some extra sweet treats. Maybe you came in to pick up 2 or 3 things for dinner but before you know it you have a cart full of things you didn’t plan on getting. And the cashier typically asks the same thing, “Did you find everything you were looking for?” If you’re fortunate in that moment you may remember what it was that you came in for but if not it may not be until you are home that you remember.
As we kick off our series on Soul Care it’s so important that we remember another key to unlocking joy is to remember that Jesus is coming back and this world is temporary. It’s this perspective that can help us see things that matter the most and what’s most worth our time, energy and affection.
It’s very easy to get distracted with all that’s happening in our world right now. Every day we wake up and wonder when is this quarantine going to end? When will things get back to normal? What if we get the virus? Remembering that God is in control and God has a plan to one day rescue us from it all is a comforting thought that will help us experience joy. Not too long ago our church did a series on heaven. Can you remember what you found most encouraging about that series? Consider going back and listening to some of that series while you have a little extra time at home.
