“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 4:10-11

Serve in your sweet spot.

1 Peter 4:10-11 tells us that God has given each believer a gift. The greek word used here is charisma (χάρισμα) which is literally translated as “grace gift”. This is significant as it signifies how we are to function within the body of Christ. With our “grace gift” we are to gift God’s grace to others. We are recipients of grace and it is now our duty to dispense that grace to others. I’m referring here not to God’s salvific grace but to His common grace that supplies our needs and makes our lives better.

It is interesting to note that charisma is used today to describe someone with a dynamic and magnetic personality. Our gift(s) from God are not to be used for self-actualization or fulfillment but should serve as common grace to others! Whether we speak or whether we serve we do it by the strength of God for God’s glory alone! The praise and credit of Christian ministry always goes to Christ.

What is one way you can leverage your “grace gift” to give grace to someone today?

Our Father,

Thank you for your Word. I pray that by Your Holy Spirit that, 1 Peter 4:10-11 would sink deep into our hearts. That we would embrace the gift that we have received from you, that we would use them well to serve one another, that we would do all of this by your strength and by your glory. We agree with Peter, Lord, to you belongs glory and dominion forever and ever. We pray this in the name of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
