TUESDAY, AUGUST 24
And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything that they had…They worshiped together at the Temple each day.
Acts 2:44-46 (NLT2)
A GATHERING PEOPLE
I once spent a week at a camp with a camp counselor from rural Alabama. His accent was phenomenal. The pronunciation of certain words and the pace at which he talked made him a popular guy around camp that week. Following that week at camp, my mom asked me, “when did you start saying “y’all” like that?” I realized that camp counselor’s accent, cadence, and rhythm had rubbed off on me. One week and I was starting to talk more and more like a country boy from rural Alabama.
You’ve heard it said, “Show me your friends, I’ll show you your future”. This past Sunday Mike discussed the idea that we will become like those we spend the most time with. We are continually being formed by the people we surround ourselves with consistently.
Acts 2:44-46 describes the life of the early church, in which believers gathered daily and had all things in common. David Guzik has some practical descriptions of what we always have in common with all believers:
- We share the same Lord Jesus.
- We share the same guide for life.
- We share the same love for God.
- We share the same desire to worship Him.
- We share the same struggles.
- We share the same victories.
- We share the same job of living for Him.
- We share the same joy of communicating the gospel.
Our commonality in Jesus, brings us together and helps us operate in our intended design!
Reflection
Pause for a moment and reflect on your life. Are the people who are surrounded with helping you look and love like Jesus?
Praise
Thank God for the community of believers that we can do life with. Ask God for wisdom on how to surround yourself with other believers who will help you look and love like Jesus.
