WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13

I have new TEAMMATES.

This passage highlights that when we are baptized we are connected to Christ and subsequently connected with all those who are connected to Christ! We get new teammates! Do you notice what the text says, one spirit, baptized into one body, of one spirit. Each individual is baptized into a family of faith! We are now connected in a profound way. The text also highlights that there is no qualifiers or disqualifiers in our connection to Christ and each other. The ground is level before Jesus. The text specifically says, Jews or Greeks, Slaves or free. These were current day categories that were culturally positioned on opposite sides of the spectrum. Today the categories might be Democrat or Republican, citizen or immigrant, black or white. But in Christ, we ALL are baptized into ONE BODY in ONE SPIRIT.

AW Tozer says it this way, “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow.”

In a world of divisions, disqualifiers, and deceit see that with Jesus we all come to Him the same!

Reflection

What are characteristics of a good teammate? How could you be a good teammate to someone in your faith circle today?

Prayer

Our Father,

Thank you for your Word. We pray that by your Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 would change us into the likeness of Christ. We praise you for the family of faith you have formed. Thank you for the brothers and sisters that we have in Christ. We praise you for you multi-ethnic family that you have formed in Christ. We pray today that we would be good teammates to the people you have put into our lives, may we live out our baptism in obedience to you! We trust in you. We need you! We pray these in the name of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
