WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25
And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.
They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need….
(they were) enjoying the goodwill of all the people.
Acts 2:44-45, 47 (NLT2)
A LOVING PEOPLE
A four-year-old boy asked his father, “Daddy, what does ‘ignore’ mean?” His father explained that it meant not to pay attention to someone. The boy responded, “I don’t think we should ignore Jesus.” Puzzled, the dad replied, “I don’t either.” Then the boy explained, “But that’s what the Christmas carol says, ‘O come let us ignore Him.’” (Steven Cole)
Silly as it is, if we’re honest, isn’t it easy to ignore Jesus and the needs of the people around us?
As followers of Jesus, we are recipients of the greatest gift the world has ever known: the love, the grace, and the mercy of God. At no cost to us, but at the largest cost to our savior. Having freely received we know freely give!
In Acts 2:44-45,47, we see radical generosity personified. The early church shared all that they had and met the needs of those in their community. Love embraced always become love extended.
On Sunday, Mike said, “When I ask how I can help with no strings attached, people will notice!”. May we choose to love and serve our community with no strings attached!
Reflection
Take a moment and consider the generosity of God to YOU. What would it look like to serve others with no strings attached today?
Praise
Thank God for the gift you have received in Jesus Christ. Ask God to give you an opportunity to be generous today and for the courage to say YES!
