“You are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident – it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable than gold.”
1 Peter 1:6 (Phillips)
VALLEYS ARE PURPOSEFUL
Three elderly ladies were discussing the trials of getting older. One said, “Sometimes I catch myself with a jar of mayonnaise in my hand, standing in front of the refrigerator, and I can’t remember if I need to put it away or start making a sandwich.” The second lady chimed in, “Yes, sometimes I find myself on the landing of the stairs and can’t remember whether I was going up or down.” “Well,” the third one said, “I’m glad I don’t have that problem — knock on wood.” As she rapped her knuckles on the table she added, “That must be the door. I’ll get it!” (Susan Blader)
Whether it is our memory, our health, our finances, our relationships, our school or work situation, or whatever, we all face various struggles and valleys in life. According to 1 Peter 1:6, God has a purpose for those trials and the end purpose has greater value than gold.
Think about a valley you went through that you clearly saw the purpose and reward on the other side.
Talk to God about any valley you are walking through where it’s difficult to see the purpose. Thank Him that He has a purpose and ask Him to help you trust Him anyway.
