WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us…
Hebrews 4:16a (NLT)
WONDERFUL COUNSELOR: HE KNOWS BEST
Automaker Henry Ford asked electrical genius Charlie Steinmetz to build the generators for his factory. One day the generators ground to a halt, and the repairmen couldn’t find the problem. So Ford called Steinmetz, who tinkered with the machines for a few hours and then threw the switch. The generators whirred to life-but Ford got a bill for $10,000 from Steinmetz. Flabbergasted, the rather tightfisted car maker inquired why the bill was so big. Steinmetz’s reply: For tinkering with the generators, $10. For knowing where to tinker, $9,990. (Ford paid the bill. Today in the Word).
God knows we need mercy and grace in order to experience His best. Everything else we need flows out of God’s provisions of that mercy and grace. The word “help” in Hebrews 4:16 is properly rendered assistance or support; but it is an assistance in consequence of the earnest cry of the person in distress, for the word signifies to run at the cry.
Reflection
How have you sensed God running at your cry for help in the past? Have you cried out to God for help with any challenges you are currently facing?
Praise
Thank God for His invitation to cry out to Him with your needs. Praise Him for always knowing what’s best for you.
