GREAT JOY IS FOR YOU
A 4-year-old little girl recently visited a dental office run by one of my friends. The girl was extremely nervous and uncertain about seeing the dentist, even to the point of tears. My friend invited the girl to come and visit the treasure box where kids could pick various treats during their visits. Then this little girl and her father were invited to one of the offices where they kept special pens with special flowers attached that were only for the most special visitors. The girl picked a special pen for herself and for her two older sisters. After that she was relaxed and joyful.
There is something about feeling special and getting special gifts that can make all of us feel more relaxed and joyful. When the angels appeared to the shepherds at Jesus’ birth they said, “Unto you is born this day.” Part of the good news of great joy was that Jesus was born for them!
Jesus was also born for you! This special gift of God coming to earth to die for our sins was a special gift for you. Some have said, “If you were the only one on the planet, Jesus would have still come to die for you.” Max Lucado wrote, “If Jesus had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.” You are special to Jesus and Jesus wants to be your source of great joy! How does it make you feel when you think about the image of Jesus having your picture on His refrigerator? Thank God for your special gift of His Son.
