FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NLT2)
GREAT JOY IS OVERCOMING
The book and film Dolphin Tale are inspired by the true story of Winter, a bottlenose dolphin that was rescued in December 2005 off the Florida coast and taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. A lonely and friendless boy finds and untangles a hurt dolphin that is caught in a crab trap. He becomes very attached to the dolphin when the tail must be taken off to save the dolphin’s life. The boy believes the dolphin would be able to swim normally if it was given a prosthetic tail. Not only do they save Winter’s life but eventually Winter is able to swim again.
This heartwarming story is a reminder of how much we all love stories about overcomers. When Jesus addressed His followers, He was always honest. In John 16 Jesus tells His followers that life is going to bring trials and sorrows. But He also told them to be encouraged because Jesus was going to overcome those trials and sorrows and eventually His followers would too because they belonged to Him.
Jesus didn’t promise you that this Christmas season would be easy and without challenges. What He did promise was that eventually He would overcome those challenges and so will we. That promise was designed to be a source of joy for each of us. So, if you are having a challenging Christmas season, be encouraged that Jesus loves you, knows about your challenges and promises to ultimately help you overcome them.
