“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
John 1:12-13 (ESV)
RECEIVING THE LIGHT
Three frogs are sitting on a log. Two decide to jump off. How many are left? That’s not a hard question. Three minus two equals one. But one is not the right answer. The right answer is three. You haven’t jumped off the log because you decided to jump. The frog is still on the log until he actually jumps off. Until then you’re just “making a decision.”
The Bible teaches there is actually a point in time when we go from just knowing about Jesus to actually receiving and believing in Him. The goal is not religion but a relationship. “Not of blood” means you aren’t born as a Christian. “Not of the will of flesh or will of man” means you can’t earn it but it is a supernatural new birth that’s received by faith. And when we do that God gives us “the right to become children of God.”
Sellars taught us on Sunday that it’s not our family status, morality, or good deeds that get us into God’s family. It is only by receiving God’s grace that we get into God’s family. “Receiving” the light is the second way we can respond to Jesus as Light. When did you receive Jesus? Have you been baptized since then? If not, “get off the log” and receive Jesus today. Let us help you with next steps and text “nscfollow” to 555888.
