Matthew 1:23 (ESV)
LONG JOURNEY: JESUS ‘GETS’ ME
Ralph and Janice were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The church was honoring the couple. The pastor asked Ralph to come forward and give a testimony. Ralph said, “Well, the secret to our marriage is that I always treated her with respect, spent a lot of money on her and gave her an expensive trip just to give her a break and let her get away from it all.” Pastor said, “That’s great, where did you take her?” He said, “For our 25th anniversary, I took her to Beijing, China.” The congregation nodded and ooooed in approval and the pastor asked, “Where are you going on your 50th anniversary?” Ralph replied, “To Beijing, to get her back!”
On the very first Christmas Jesus took the longest journey that’s ever been taken to show the greatest love that’s ever been shown. Jesus not only left heaven to come to earth, He also took His deity and wrapped it with humanity. For thousands of years God had appeared only in Spirit, primarily within the veil, hovering over the Mercy Seat. In Christ, God came to dwell among men. Through Him we see the personification of God in the flesh.
In the sermon Mike shared Hebrews 4:15-16 which reads, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” What are your greatest weaknesses? How does it make you feel knowing Jesus can sympathize with your weakness? Take your weakness to God’s throne of grace and ask for mercy and help.
