And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:12-14  (NLT)

Lindsay Clegg told the story of a warehouse property he was selling. The building had been empty for months and needed repairs. As he showed a prospective buyer the property, Clegg took pains to say that he would replace the broken windows and bring in a crew to correct any structural damage. “Forget about the repairs,” the buyer said.  I don’t want the building; I just want the site as I plan to build something entirely new. When we become God’s, the old life is over (2 Cor. 5:17). He makes all things new. All He wants is the site to build on. (Source Unknown).

Colossians 2 teaches us that we get a new life when we trust in God’s “mighty power.” The same “mighty power” that raised Jesus from the dead gives us a new life in Christ. The Bible uses the picture of being spiritually dead to describe a person who has not placed their trust in Jesus for salvation. And in a sense, we are spiritually brought to life by God’s power when we become a follower of Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5 goes into depth regarding the new life we have in Christ here on earth and in eternity. Take a few moments and read that chapter. What are a few things that stand out to you about what Jesus has done for you based on 2 Corinthians 5?

Thank God for some of the benefits of being in Christ that you discovered today.
