“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”
Philippians 2:4-5 (NLT2)
LOVE OTHERS BY MAKING TIME FOR THEM
A gallery owner tells one of his artists that he’s got some good news and bad news. The artist asks for the good news first. “Well,” he replies, “the good news is that a man came in here today asking if the price of your paintings would go up after you died. When I told him they would, he bought every single one of your paintings.” Elated, the artist asked, “What could the bad news possibly be?” “Evidently, that man was your doctor,” replied the gallery owner.
We never know how much time we may have. And if we get to the end of our life and realize we only made time for ourselves and not for others, it will be a sad existence. In Philippians 2, we are reminded to look out for the “interest” of others, too. Jesus’ day was interrupted on numerous occasions with the “interest” of others. And Jesus stopped and did amazing things during those interruptions.
Can you remember a few of the examples we heard on Sunday of times when Jesus stopped to serve the interest of others? Most days, God brings people into our paths with needs we weren’t expecting to learn about. The question is, will we slow down long enough and love enough to listen and see if God wants to use us in those situations. Ask God to give you the eyes to see who needs your love and time today.
