“ And when He saw their faith, He said, ‘Man, your sins are forgiven you.’”
Luke 5:20 (ESV)
HELPING PEOPLE FIND THEIR WAY HOME REQUIRES FAITH
A man walked into a flower shop and asked for some potted red geraniums. “I’m sorry,” said the clerk, “we are completely sold out of all of our potted geraniums. But I’d be more than happy to give you a deal on something else. Could you use African violets instead?” Replied the customer sadly, “No, it was geraniums my wife told me to water while she was gone.” (Jeff Strite, “Scattering the Seed”)
There are particular tasks in life that you need to make sure you trust the right person to do. In Luke 5, four men trusted Jesus to heal their friend, and Jesus saw their faith. Not only does Jesus see their faith, but He sees the more significant need! Robertson notes, Jesus saw “the faith of the four men and of the man himself. There is no reason for excluding his faith. They all had confidence in the power and willingness of Jesus to heal this desperate case.” Hendriksen adds that “though the five did not talk, they trusted! And that was what really mattered. The confidence of the five touched the very heart of Jesus.”
If God is going to use us to help lead people home, it’s going to require faith. It requires faith that Jesus can make an eternal difference in people’s lives. And faith that our energy and effort are worth it when Jesus is involved. Lately, what have you done where Jesus could see your faith? Are you involved in a ministry area that demonstrates the faith you have in Jesus?
