16 Then those who had seen what happened told the others about the demon-possessed man and the pigs. 17 And the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go away and leave them alone.

Mark 5:16-17  (NLT)

Jill Morgan, the daughter-in-law of pastor G. Campbell Morgan, wrote in her book, A MAN OF THE WORD, “In 1888 my father-in-law was rejected for the ministry. He wired to his father the one word, “Rejected,” and sat down to write in his diary: “Very dark everything seems. Still, He knoweth best.” Quickly came the reply: “Rejected on earth. Accepted in heaven. Dad.”

In Mark 5 Jesus changed the demon possessed man’s life but the crowd didn’t like the cost and begged Jesus to leave. Bob Utley who says, “This is one of the saddest verses in all of the Bible. In the presence of the greatest man of history, these villagers were more concerned about the death of a few hogs than they were over the redemption and reclamation of two demonized persons and the spiritual potential of the gospel for their area.” Note the irony, the people were just as afraid of the sane man as they were of the demon possessed man! Of course, what they were really afraid of was the power that produced the man’s dramatic transformation. The people who observed carefully could not have missed the message, but as we see they refuse to receive it for they were more concerned with the fiscal loss.

Jesus was rejected by some on earth. When we Live Sent we will also be misunderstood and rejected by some. Don’t be surprised and don’t be discouraged. When have you experienced rejection as a result of Living Sent?

Missionary and Christian martyr, Jim Elliot said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Praise God for what you gain when you choose Jesus.
