Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.”
Luke 8:44-46 (NLT)
REACHING OUT TO JESUS
Despite the “Do Not Touch” signs, a museum was having no success in keeping patrons from touching and soiling priceless furniture and art. But the problem evaporated overnight when a clever museum employee replaced the signs with ones that read: “Caution: Wash Hands After Touching!”
Mike talked in his sermon on the significance of this woman touching Jesus’ robe. Perhaps she knew some who had been healed just by touching Him. Matthew’s gospel indicates she had pre-meditated this act recording, “she was saying to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I will get well.’”(Mt 9:21) Clearly this was a statement of her belief in Jesus’ power to heal. Her faith was such that she believed just a touch of His garment would heal her! Some feel this was a bit superstitious on her part. However, Jesus clearly perceived the size of her faith.
Isn’t it amazing that Jesus invites us into an intimate relationship with Him. Even though He is God, He came as a man so we could get up close and personal. Take some time today to talk to God about the nearness He desires in a relationship with you. Where are the areas of your life are you still hesitant to trust Jesus to handle?
Jesus taught us to call God “Abba” Father. This is a term of endearment and closeness. Praise God as your “Daddy” today.
