TUESDAY, JANUARY 24
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.

In His Hands
John 6:10-13 depicts the climax of Jesus’ miracle as he feeds 5,000 people through five barley loaves and two fish that a young man had provided.
In the hands of the young man, all he possesses is two fish and five loaves of bread, maybe enough to feed a small group of people. But in the hands of Jesus, the same substance is capable of providing a meal with leftovers for 5,000+ people! In the hands of Jesus, there is limitless potential as he is God in the flesh–100% God and 100% man. Jesus acts with the authority of Heaven, and it is so. He decided to feed 5,000 with this measly lunch, and it was so.
In the hands of the young man: LIMITED.
In the hands of Jesus: LIMITLESS.
Today, consider what things are securely in your hands that could be placed in Jesus’ hands.

Is your marriage in your hands, or is it in Jesus’ hands?

Are your children in your hands, or are they in the hands of Jesus?

Is your career in your hands, or is it in Jesus’ hands?

Is the care of your aging parents in your hands or in Jesus’ hands?

Are your finances in your hands or in Jesus’ hands?
Now, this is not an invitation to be passive in our lives and “just let God,” but it is an invitation to live in ACTIVE DEPENDENCE upon the Lord. As we know, that he is able to do more than we could ever do on our own.
Prayer
Our Father,
Thank you for your Word. We pray that by your Spirit, John 6:10-13 would change us into the likeness of Christ. Help us to live in dependence upon you. Help us to let go of whatever we are gripping so tight today and give it to you. Father, we pray this now through The Son, and By the Spirit. Amen.
