In his defense Jesus said to them,
“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
John 5:17 (NLT)
LIVING SENT IN THE WORKPLACE: HE IS STILL WORKING
Someone has written that there are four kinds of bones in the world. The WISH BONES who spend their time wishing someone else would do the work; The JAW BONES who do all the talking, but very little else; The KNUCKLE BONES who knock everything that anyone else is trying to do; The BACK BONES who shoulder the load and do the work. (Lou Nicholes)
God has always been the backbone. God has always been at work in our lives. In John 5, Jesus heals a man who had not been able to walk for 38 years. The man immediately picks up his mat and carries it away. The problem was this was done on the Sabbath, which was a day of rest, and the Pharisees had added to God’s word. They claimed you shouldn’t heal or carry a mat on the Sabbath. Jesus responded that God the Father is always working, and so was He.
Jesus was following the example of His Father. Likewise, we live to follow the example of Jesus. In what ways are you following the example of Jesus in your workplace?
Let Psalm 145:4-6 lead your praise today, “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds.”
