15 But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. 16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

The Secret Place
A major marker of Jesus’ life is his rhythm to withdraw to the secret place.
In this passage, Luke notes that the name and fame of Jesus Christ are spreading across the region, but Jesus would withdraw to desolate places and pray. This withdrawing to the secret place is not an anomaly or Jesus but rather it is a intregal part of his lifestyle.
The purpose of the secret place was for Jesus to connect to his Father, which fueled Jesus for his ministry. We see the principle of what is done is PRIVATE greatly affects what happens in PUBLIC.
In fact, Jesus teaches that God cares most about what happens in the private place, not in the public square. The value placed on the secret place runs in contrast to our cultural moment in which the Public Image is deemed more important than the private reality.
The Secret Place with God is an opportunity to be reminded of what is true about reality and about ourselves. The Secret Place is where we get face to face with God and remember what is true about us.
May this passage be an encouragement for us to run to the Secret place!
Prayer
Our Father,
Thank you for your Word. We pray that by your Spirit, Luke 5:15-16 would change us into the likeness of Christ. Help us, Lord to meet with you in the secret place. Help us to value what happens in private more than public. We long to look and love like you! Father, we pray this now through The Son, and By the Spirit. Amen.
