BIBLIOLOGY
This week, we are looking at some different ways we can align our lives with Christ in the New Year.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 is a foundational passage in how we understand the Bible. The theological term for this is BIBLIOLOGY. This passage tells us that the nature of God’s Word is that it is GOD-BREATHED. Specifically, each and every word is literally the breath of God on the page. God has used human authors and their personalities/vocabulary to reveal Himself to His world. This is known as verbal plenary inspiration.
As a result, we should pay close attention to the Bible because it is the very word of God! God has chosen to reveal Himself and His work in the world through the written Word of God. The Bible could not be more important. Yet, many times, we have fallen captive to the lie that the Bible is only for pastors, scholars, or teachers. But here is the truth:
THE BIBLE IS FOR EVERYONE.
Regardless of who you are or your educational background, the Bible is for you. Maybe you have a tough time reading or understanding, but the process is how we are built up in Christ.
“The heart cannot love what the mind does not know.”
We are responsible for knowing our Bibles well in order to know and love our God well.
Prayer
Our Father,
Thank you for your Word. We pray that by your Spirit, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 would change us into the likeness of Christ. Help us to know our Bibles well, in order to know and love you well, Lord. Forgive us of our passivity and unwillingness to lay it all down for you. Father, we pray this now through The Son, and By the Spirit. Amen.
