THURSDAY, JANUARY 6

6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.

Luke 5:6-7  (NLT)

NORTHSTAR’S APPROACH TO CHURCH: WE INSTILLED A TEAM MINDSET

Lee Iacocca once asked legendary football coach Vince Lombardi what it took to make a winning team. Iacocca records Lombardi’s answer: “There are a lot of coaches with good ball clubs who know the fundamentals and have plenty of discipline but still don’t win the game. Then you come to the third ingredient: if you are going to play together as a team, you’ve got to care for one another. You’ve got to love each other. Each player has to be thinking about the next guy and be saying to himself: ‘If I don’t block that man, Paul is going to get his legs broken. I have to do my job well in order that he can do his.’ The difference between mediocrity and greatness is the feeling these guys have for each other.” (Tales of the Neverending, Mark Littleton)

The result of lowering the nets in Luke 5 is success and near disaster at the same time. The nets are overflowing, and so is the boat! The boat is so full it begins to sink. The catch was so vast that the fishermen in the other boat were called to help them draw in the net. Both ships were filled to the point that they began to sink. The fisherman needed help in accomplishing God’s mission.

Reflection

Our church realizes that God’s mission for us is bigger than any of us individually. We have been committed for 25 years to raising up teams to accomplish God’s mission for us in our community. Have you found a team to serve on? If not, consider joining one of our ministry teams this year. We need you to help us bring in the nets!

Praise

Thank God for allowing us to be a part of an amazing team. Thank God for the people from NorthStar who have been there for you when you needed help. Send them a note today and thank them.
