15 Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. 16 Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet.

1 Kings 19:15-16 (NLT)

You’ve heard the one, I ‘m sure, about the lonely frog who goes to see a fortune-teller. He’s told not to worry. She says, “You’re going to meet a beautiful young girl, and she will want to know everything about you.” “That’s great!” the excited frog says. “When will I meet her?” And the psychic says, “Next semester…in biology class.”

Twice Elijah had complained that he was all alone in his devotion to the Lord. However, God tells him that there are 7,000 others who have not worshiped Baal. Elijah is not alone! And now God gives him Elisha to mentor and prepare to take over and finish the battle Elijah had started for God. God is not finished with Elijah just yet. God brings him out of his valley and puts him back in the thick of the battle for the glory of God. As Elijah hears the commands he is being given by the Lord, he hears that he is to anoint a man named Jehu to be the king over Israel. This must have been music to the ears of the prophet. This meant that Ahab and his reign of wickedness would be coming to an end. In other words, all the events and trials that have taxed Elijah’s physical, spiritual and mental reserves are coming to an end. This is God’s promise to Elijah that he will outlast his battles!

As long as you are still alive, God is not finished with you either. God has also designed you to walk the Christian journey with others. Who are the people God has brought into your life to help you live out God’s mission? What are some reminders that God has given you that He still has work for you to do?

Praise God for never giving up on you. Thank God for the people He has sent into your life to encourage you and minister with you along the way.
