I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me through their message
John 17:20 (NLT2)
PRAYERS FOR THE FUTURE
Early African converts to Christianity were earnest and regular in private devotions. Each one reportedly had a separate spot in the thicket where he would pour out his heart to God. Over time the paths to these places became well worn. As a result, if one of these believers began to neglect prayer, it was soon apparent to the others. They would kindly remind the negligent one, “Brother, the grass grows on your path.” (Source: Today in the Word)
Jesus made time to pray consistently. And when Jesus was praying in John 17, He was praying for all who would ever believe the message of Christianity. Jesus knew this handful of disciples would have a global impact that would last thousands of years and into eternity. The disciples had no idea at the time just how greatly they would be used but still today we are beneficiaries of the ministry they did.
How does it make you feel knowing Jesus and others prayed for you before you ever became a Christian? Is there anyone specifically who you are praying for to become a Christian?
Romans 8:34 says, “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Thank Jesus for His prayers on your behalf.
