But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said.
“When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.
I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too,
for he has defied the armies of the living God!

WINNING MY BATTLES: USE THE FAITH THAT YOU HAVE
In his book, “Glad Tidings,” James Kallam tells of a young book salesman who was assigned to a rural area. Seeing a farmer seated in a rocking chair on his front porch, the young man approached him with all the zeal of a newly trained salesman. “Sir,” he said, “I have here a book that will tell you how to farm 10 times better than you are doing it now.” The farmer continued to rock. After a few seconds he stopped, looked at the young fellow and said, “Son, I don’t need your book. I already know how to farm 10 times better than I’m doing it now.”
In 1 Samuel 17, the nation of Israel already knew enough about God to live 10 times better than they were. But they were still afraid of Goliath. In contrast, David remembered how God had delivered him in the past and used that faith to win his current battle against Goliath.
Many of us in church know enough of the Bible to live 10 times better than we live now. In Luke 6:46-48 Jesus said, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” Is your faith and obedience preparing you for the battles ahead?
Thank God for giving you a solid foundation to build on. Ask Him to give you strength and courage to fight the giants in your life.
