WEDNESDAY, JULY 8
“When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.”
Luke 19:5-6 (NLT2)
GOODNESS COMES WHEN WE MEET WITH JESUS
In Luke 19 Zacchaeus thought he was looking for Jesus but actually Jesus came looking for Zacchaeus and called him by name. Part of Jesus’ mission was to change Zacchaeus and make him a new man. Jesus said, “I must come in your home.” The word must emphasizes the importance of this event in Jesus’s mission. And Zacchaeus welcomed Him with excitement.
Just a few years ago, back in 2014, Russell Crowe starred in a movie called, The Water Diviner. It’s a story about a man named Joshua Connor, played by Crowe, who left Australia for Turkey, to find his sons, three of them, lost in the Battle of Gallipoli. They were all presumed dead, but he promised his wife he would find them and bring them home.
At first, the British War Graves Unit wouldn’t let him search for them, until finally, a ranking officer, allowed him to come. It’s then that he learned that two of his sons had been killed in battle, but one was still alive. And after searching for him and finding him, the two went home together.
And among the many lines for which the movie is known, one of the most important is this. One officer said to another: “Why change everything for one father who can’t stay put?” The other replied, “Because he is the only father who came looking.”
God will change anyone’s life who is willing to welcome Jesus into their life as Lord and Savior. As Savior, He rescues us from the penalty of our sin. And as our Lord we submit to His way of doing life. Spend some time telling Jesus how you feel about having Him in your life. Thank Him for coming into your home to change you too.
