“I will do this to capture the minds and hearts of all my people
who have turned from Me to worship their detestable idols.”
Ezekiel 14:5 (NLT2)
GOD WON’T HAVE ALL OF ME UNTIL HE HAS MY HEART
A nurse on the Pediatric Ward before listening to the little ones’ heartbeat would plug the stethoscope into their ears and let them listen to their own hearts. Their eyes would always light up with awe, but she never got a response to equal four-year old David’s comment. She tucked the stethoscope gently into his ears and placed the disk over his heart. “Listen,” she said…”What do you suppose that is?” He drew his eyebrows together in a puzzled line and looked up as if lost in the mystery of the strange tap-tap-tapping deep in his chest. Then his face broke out in a wondrous grin, and he asked, “Is that Jesus knocking?”
In Ezekiel 14 God was knocking on the door of Israel’s heart. He was determined to do what was necessary to “capture the minds and hearts” of His people. Some of the things God used to recapture their hearts were pleasant and some were unpleasant. But God’s goal wasn’t temporary pleasure, it was eternal blessings for His people. In Acts 13:22, “God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.” God wasn’t going to settle for less than all of Saul’s heart.
Has God been knocking on your heart’s door lately and trying to get your attention? What area of your heart do you think you may be withholding from God?
God pursues us for a loving relationship because He is good and loving. Thank Him for pursuing you out of love.
