MONDAY, JUNE 14

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Philippians 2:5-8 (NLT2)

ADJUSTING MY ATTITUDE

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. “Well,” she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today.” So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. “Hmmm,” she said, “I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today.” So she did and she had a grand day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. “Well,” she said, “Today I’m going to wear my hair in a ponytail.” So she did, and she had a fun, fun day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and noticed that there wasn’t a single hair on her head. “YAY!” she exclaimed. “I don’t have to fix my hair today!” This is a woman who understood the power of a good attitude. (Joyce Meyer)

The Apostle Paul told the church in Philippi that an attitude like Jesus was essential in living out their faith on a daily basis. Having the same attitude of Jesus requires an adjustment for all of us. One of the primary characteristics of Jesus’ attitude was humility. Jesus put aside all personal rights and interests in order to insure the welfare of others. In so doing, He gave us a perfect example to follow.

Reflection

What situations make it hard for you to have a humble attitude? How did Jesus display humility based on Philippians 2:5-8? In what ways can you find motivation from Jesus’ example to adjust your attitude to be more like His?

Praise

Thank Jesus for leaving the perfection of heaven, in humility, to show His love for you. Thank Jesus for giving you a living example of humility and its benefits.
