But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:43-45 (NLT2)
ADJUSTING MY ATTITUDE: LEADING THE WAY
A chaplain was speaking to a soldier on a cot in a hospital. “You have lost an arm in the great cause,” he said. “No,” said the soldier with a smile. “I didn’t lose it–I gave it.” In that same way, Jesus did not lose His life. He gave it purposefully. (Sower of Seeds, Brian Cavanaugh)
In the same way, Jesus’ life was not taken from Him. Jesus chose to give His entire life to pay for our sins. Jesus left the comfort of heaven to come and serve humanity. This is how Jesus taught us to measure greatness. Jesus is the ultimate servant leader.
We all have the opportunity to follow Jesus’ example of servant leadership. The way a Christian leads should look different than the way a non Christian leads. You may not be in charge or the boss but we all have opportunities to lead by an example of service. Who have you seen practice servant leadership well? Who can you serve today?
Thanks Jesus for the way He leads you. Ask God to grow your servant’s heart and use you to lead others to Him.
