21 Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent.

1 Kings 18:21 (NLT)

There is a game my parents play when they are on long road trips in the car. The rules of the game went something like this. “The first one to talk loses.” It’s called the silence game. Have you ever played the game? Just about every parent has made up a game similar to this. When traveling in a vehicle and arguing continues, or complaining erupts, or the eternal question, “How much further?” is asked for the 100th time, we want silence. So we play the silence game. Sometimes, silence is golden.

However, sometimes silence is not golden. For instance, in 1 Kings 18:21, Elijah tells the people to choose God or Baal and the people “were completely silent.” They wanted to sit on the fence and not make a decision. But when you don’t make a decision to follow God, you are making a decision to not follow Him. There are often times in life when a decision needs to be made and no one is willing to cross the line.

Mike shared that you can’t have one foot in and one foot out when it comes to following Jesus. In what ways are you trying to keep one foot in the world and one foot out? Have you made a clear choice to follow Jesus?

Thank Jesus for making a clear choice when He chose you. Ask God to help you remove any doubt that you are His.
