TUESDAY, MARCH 1
But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.
Acts 14:3 (NLT)
INFLUENCE IN A DIVIDED CULTURE: JUMP IN – GET TO KNOW THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU
When I was growing up as a boy in the country I learned the tragic results of a bad relationship. We had a neighbor and his wife who were always arguing and fighting. Finally, they divided their house by drawing a chalk line down the middle. The wife took one side and the husband took the other and they would dare each other to cross the line. The husband would torment his wife by sticking his toe across the line and she would swing at it with an ax while he pulled it back quickly. For years they coexisted in this relationship until their house burned down. (Lou Nicholes).
As the tension was rising in the city, which would tend to intimidate most missionaries, it seemed to inspire the disciples rather than intimidate them. They stood their ground and decided that rather than fight they would jump in and get to know the people. The passage says they “stayed there a long time.” We don’t know how long but we do know that genuine ministry is a process and can take time.
Jack Andrews says “Effective ministry takes time…We are to stay where God wants us as long as God wants us!” Is there anywhere God is telling you to stay but you want to leave? Do you know if God is done with you being a light there?
Praise God for placing you right where He wants you for now. Ask God to help you get to know the people and the ministry needs around you.
