Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

In the sixteenth century, the Great Commission Jesus gave His disciples was interpreted by the Reformers as applicable only for the first century. Yet, the Anabaptist Believers Church considered the commission so seriously that they spread its evangelistic message across Europe. During this time, an imperial knight named Leonhardt Dorfbrunner was converted and subsequently ordained as an evangelist. During the four months from September 1527 to January 1528 (when he was burned at the stake), he had won to Christ and baptized three thousand persons. (Myron S. Augsburger, The Communicator’s Commentary).

Matthew 28:19-20 is considered to be The Great Commission that Jesus gave all of His disciples just before returning to heaven. This is what Jesus has instructed us to do until He returns to take us to heaven.  As we “go,” Jesus wants us leading other people to become mature followers of Jesus and leading them to follow Jesus’ example of baptism. We are also called to teach them to live according to Jesus’ commands.

On Sunday Cole asked the question: Now What? 1) Who am I sharing the gospel with? 2) Who am I investing in? How did you answer those questions and what have you done about it since Sunday?

Thank God for the privilege of being a part of His plan to reach the world. Ask God to clearly show you how He wants to use you to reach people in your neighborhood but also across the globe.
