JESUS LIGHTS THE WAY TO THE FATHER IN HEAVEN
Christian Cheong tells the story of a boatman and a scholar traveling on a boat. During the journey, the scholar asked the boatman, “Do you know philosophy?” “No,” he replied. “Do you know psychology?” asked the scholar. “No,” replied the boatman. The scholar asked, “What about geology?” The boatman said, “Nope!” “I suppose you don’t know accountancy, huh?” inquired the scholar. “No, not at all,” said the boatman. Finally, the scholar said, “Hm… life must be pretty boring for you then.” Just then, a storm erupted, and the waves were beating furiously against the boat. The scholar was afraid. The boatman asked, “Do you know how to swim?” “No!” he replied. “That’s too bad,” the boatman said and then added, “But do you know God?” “No, I don’t!” said the scholar. The boatman exclaimed, “Then that’s even worse. You’ll have no hope after death!” Then the boatman brought out a lamp, lifted it and asked, “Do you believe that this light can save you?” The man began to wave the lamp, sending a signal in the darkness to the surrounding boats for help. Eventually, they were saved. The light saved them.
Jesus says, “I am the Light of the world.” No ‘…logy’ (no human wisdom and knowledge) can save you. Only Jesus can. In John 8:21, Jesus told the self-righteous religious leaders they could not come to heaven because they refused to trust Him as the Light of the World. Jesus is our only hope of getting to God the Father in heaven. Anyone who accepts Jesus is promised heaven. And anyone who rejects Jesus is guaranteed hell.
Reflection
Jesus came to be the Light of the World. “World” means He came for everyone, and that includes you. Have you trusted His Word and accepted His offer of eternal life in heaven and a place in God’s family? If not, ask Him today to be your personal Savior.

Thank Jesus for showing you the way to heaven. Thank Him for giving you eyes to see and ears to hear the work of God.
