Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time.
Acts 16:6 (NLT)
ROADBLOCKS AND DETOURS: IT’S NOT THE RIGHT TIME
A young woman had prepared for missionary service on foreign fields. She had been appointed by the mission board and was ready to sail when she received a telegram saying that her sister had died in a western state. She canceled her reservation and went home. The sister left four little children and since there was no one to care for them this young woman had to stay with them. Her heart was broken. She had dreamed of being a missionary and now she would never have a chance to go out for the Lord. However, she submitted to the Lord’s will and did the best she could for the children. As they grew up, one by one they came to her saying, “Aunt, I feel that God wants me to be a missionary.” So instead of one person going out as a missionary, because of her faithfulness to God, four went out.(Jack Andrews Expository Studies – Understanding Acts)
The young woman learned there was a reason for God’s timing. In Acts 16, Paul wanted to go to Asia, but God said not “at that time.” Mike pointed out that sometimes we mistake God’s delays for God saying never or God not liking us. Paul eventually did go to Asia, but He went when God knew it was best.
How often do we experience delays, changes of plans, and redirections and treat them as intrusions? It could be that God is detouring us so we can do something different or new for Him. How have you responded to God’s delays in the past?
Praise God for His perfect timing. Ask God to help you continue to grow in the seasons He wants you to wait.
