WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3
Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)
THE SPIRIT HELPS ME WANT WHAT IS RIGHT
One day a boy’s mother decided she would make hot buttered biscuits as long as her son could eat them. He loved biscuits and always complained that he never got enough. He ate and ate and ate, and she kept pulling them out of the stove. Finally she looked around and saw him sitting there looking sort of green. “What’s wrong, son, don’t you want some more biscuits?” He answered sickishly, “No ma’am, I don’t even want the ones I’ve got.” You may get what you want, but you may not want what you’ve got after you’ve gotten it! Make sure your desires are in line with God’s will. (Dr. J. Mike Minnix)
According to Phillipians 2, the Holy Spirit helps make sure our desires are in line with God’s will. Paul challenged the church to live out their salvation. And in Philippians 2:13 he told them, God was inside of them giving them the desire and the power to live out the will of God. Supernatural work requires a supernatural desire and supernatural energy. And God has placed both of those inside of us by giving us His Spirit.
One evidence of being saved is a desire to live for God. If the desire isn’t there, there’s a good chance that God doesn’t live inside of you. Jesus promised to give us a new heart when we became Christians. And with that new heart come new desires. Take time and list some of your godly desires.
Thank God for the Spirit helping reshape your desires. Thank Him that you do have some desires that are good and from Him. Ask God for the power to live out His will.
