WEDNESDAY, MAY 11
Give my greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus.
In fact, they once risked their lives for me.
I am thankful to them, and so are all the Gentile churches.
Romans 16:3-5 (NLT)
BUILDING UP: SACRIFICE
The story is told of the pig and the chicken that went to Church and heard the Pastor was going to do his birthday. Each offered to donate towards the birthday. The Chicken offered to donate eggs and asked the pig to give bacon so that the pastor would have a good breakfast. The pig looked at the chicken and said: “Do you understand what you are saying? To you an egg is an offering; to me, bacon is a total sacrifice!”
As Paul wrote to the church in Rome, he sent a special greeting to Priscilla and Aquila. Evidently, at some point they risked their lives for the sake of Paul. Priscilla and Aquila obviously rendered selfless service to many other Christians as well, because Paul goes on to make the remarkable statement that to them not only do I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
A teenager who bought his girlfriend an orchid. It was the first orchid he had ever bought anyone and the first one she had ever received. There was a card attached and it read, “With all of my love and most of my allowance.” What is a sacrifice you have made recently to show love or encourage someone else?
1 John 3:16 says, “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” Thank Jesus for laying down His life for you. Ask God to show you any areas He wants you to sacrifice for others.
