THURSDAY, MAY 12

“When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue,

 they took him aside…”

Acts 18:26 (NLT)

BUILDING UP: PERSONAL INVESTMENT

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser and realized the world would not change I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country: but it too seemed immovable. As I grew into my twilight years, I settled on changing only my family and those closest to me, but alas they would have none of it. Now as I lay on my deathbed and I suddenly realize that if I had only changed myself first, then by example I could perhaps have changed my family, and from their inspiration and encouragement to me I would have been better able to help my country and from there I may even have been able to change the world. (Taken from the tomb of a Bishop in Westminster Abbey 1100 A.D).

The biggest investment Priscilla and Aquila made in ministry was themselves. When they heard Apollos preach they realized there was an opportunity to pour into him. Mike mentioned in the sermon that they didn’t write him off or talk bad about him behind his back. Instead, they took the time to invest in him.

Reflection

We’ve all been guilty of criticizing flaws or weaknesses in others. And we’ve all missed some of those opportunities to invest in someone that we’ve seen struggle. In the past, who has invested in you when they could have easily criticized you behind your back?

Praise/Prayer

Thank God for those who have used constructive criticism in your life and personally invested in you. Pray that God makes you more of an encourager than a criticizer.
