“If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.”

Romans 8:6 (NLT)

There was an actual Ebay listing for a 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. It had 5,487 original miles. It was in perfect showroom condition. A man called about it and he asked the seller why it had such low mileage. The answer? The owner had lost the key in 1963.

The Holy Spirit gives us the keys to life and peace. The challenge is sometimes we forget where we left the key to our peace. When we became a Christian, we were given those keys. The key is yielding to the Holy Spirit’s control. Fruitfulness in life comes because of our yielding to the Spirit. To yield means “to give up or to give yourself over.” It is also “to open yourself with an open hand to receive from another.”

Yielding to the Holy Spirit means that you give up your own ideas and efforts and put yourself in His hand. You approach Him with an empty hand and an empty mind that is open and ready to receive from Him. It is impossible to grasp one thing when your hand is holding onto something else.

Can you remember a time in your spiritual life when you were experiencing more life and peace than you are currently? What do you think has changed since then? What would it take for you to get back to that place and find the key again to that kind of peace?
