MONDAY, MAY 16

And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.

Acts 19:1 (ESV)

LISTENING UP

Several years ago, a Greensboro, North Carolina, newspaper carried a story about a tractor-trailer rolling along on a side street in a southern city. The driver came to a low bridge and misjudged the height of his rig. When the truck came to a stop, it was wedged tightly between the bridge and the street. Wreckers were called to remove the truck, but with all of their skills and equipment they could not budge it. Among the bystanders was a young student. The lad walked over to the men and suggested that the tires on the truck be deflated. As the air screamed from the tires, the great truck began to settle slowly away from the bridge. A wrecker was chained to the truck, and it was gently pulled backward. When the truck was free of the bridge, the tires were reinflated and the trucker was again on his way.” (Enest A. Fitzgerald)

The people were willing to listen to the advice of a young student and he was able to provide them with helpful information. In Acts 19, the disciples of John the Baptist had missed some key facts about Jesus. The fact that they were willing to listen to the Apostle Paul allowed them to learn some essentials of being a Christian. We will review a few foundational teachings that Mike shared this week.

Reflection

Can you recall a time in your life when you thought you had something about Christianity or religion figured out, only to later learn you were missing some key facts? Were there people who tried to share or tell you but you simply missed it?

Praise/Prayer

Praise God for His desire to reveal Himself to you and to lead you into truth. Ask God to help you recognize any wrong thinking you may have about what it means to be a follower of Christ.

Sundays: 9:30 & 11:00AM
