On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 19:5 (ESV)
LISTENING UP: BELIEVER’S BAPTISM COMES AFTER PERSONAL FAITH IN JESUS
Baptism is a lot like a wedding ring. Baptism is symbolic of the washing away of our sins. It is also symbolic of a new way of life. It has been said that Baptism is to the Christian faith what the wedding ring is to a marriage. It is a symbol. “Like the wedding ring, baptism draws a mark on the ground between the past and the future. Like the wedding ring, it says, “From this day forward, I stand with God.” (Herb Miller, Actions Speak Louder Than Verbs)
The disciples of John the Baptist listened to the preaching of the Apostle Paul and then they responded to what they heard. They were baptized in the name of Jesus. They didn’t just follow a religious routine but now their baptism was clearly a picture of what they believed about Jesus and their decision to follow Him.
Baptism does not save you but Baptism does symbolize the relationship you have with Jesus. Was your baptism after you realized who Jesus is and after you placed your faith in Him as your Savior? If not, what’s preventing you from taking part in believer’s baptism?
Thank God for inviting you into a personal relationship with Him. Pray that your relationship with Him would be evident to those around you.
