However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene
began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.
Acts 11:20 (NLT)
A THRIVING CHURCH IS COMMITTED TO LIVING SENT
Two Ladies were sharing lunch together when one said to the other: “I don’t know many Christians, but somehow I can’t help regarding them as hypocrites.” Said the other, “But your sister-in-law, she lives in the same house with you; surely you must acknowledge that she is a devoted Christian.” “That’s just it,” was the laughing reply. “She has a very lovely disposition, and she devotes her life to missions and Sunday schools, but she has never said a word to me about becoming a Christian. It’s only make-believe with her about souls being in danger. I know that she is fond of me, but if she believed all that, don’t you think she would not have said something?” (Source Unknown)
The early church believed in God, and they said something about God to others. After the stoning of Stephen, the early church was scattered for fear of persecution. While they scattered, they continued to tell others about Jesus. When they got to Antioch, they started a church. One remarkable feature of this church was how it started. It was not founded by apostles or pastors or trained missionaries. Rather, some unnamed ordinary people. Another remarkable feature was they began talking, not just to the Jews, but to the Greeks (Gentiles), telling the good news about the Lord Jesus
Do you think it’s odd for someone who claims to be a Christian to not share Jesus with people who are closest to them? What are some good reasons not to share Jesus with people you know or even strangers? What are some good reasons to share Jesus with those same people?
Thank God for the missionary movements that eventually led to you coming to know Jesus. Ask God to show you who He wants you to share Jesus with.
