“All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.”

1 John 4:15 (NLT2)

The mighty Niagara River drops 180 feet at the American and Horseshoe Falls. Above the falls there are violent rapids. Before reaching the rapids, where boats are still able to navigate, there is a bridge for pedestrians. There is a sign mounted to this bridge that says: “Do you have an anchor? Do you know how to use it?”

This week we have been looking at signs that you have Christ in you and that you are in Christ. The goal of these signs is to be an anchor for your soul and give you assurance that you are securely in the family of God. One of those signs is your personal confession of faith in Jesus as God’s Son and Savior of your sins.

The word “confess” in 1 John 4:15 is a past tense completed action. It’s not an ongoing confession. This means if there is a point in time where we genuinely confessed our sins and placed our faith in Jesus for salvation we are in Christ and we are saved.

This past week several prominent world-wide religious and tv personalities announced that faith in Jesus wasn’t necessary to get to God. This is a clear contradiction of Scripture. And it’s something that the Bible clearly warned us would happen. Perhaps you grew up hearing there were lots of ways to get to God. That’s simply not true. If you have never confessed Jesus as God’s Son and asked Him to be Savior of your soul, do it today.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  (John 14:6)
