But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News
concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ.
Acts 8:12 (NLT)
JESUS IS THE OBJECT OF TRUE FAITH
The 1996 plane crash in Croatia that took the life of U.S. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and thirty-four others revealed shortcomings in the navigation equipment on military aircraft. The pilots, attempting to reach the airport at Dubrovnik in pouring rain, were navigating with a compass and a radio receiver, which one official likened to working with a typewriter in the computer age. Officials at the Pentagon said they would improve safety and navigation equipment on military passenger planes in the future. (Today in the Word)
A good guidance system makes all the difference. Simon the sorcerer was leading people in the wrong direction. In contrast, Philip led people in the right direction toward Jesus. “The name of Jesus Christ” refers to the full revelation of the Son of God, including His earthly ministry and divine office. Jesus is God’s only path to the kingdom, but only He has paid for the very things that keep us from the kingdom, our sins. He paid for them by dying on a cross, taking our sins upon Himself.
It is popular in culture to think there are lots of ways to get to heaven. However, the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Mike reminded us that true biblical faith is always pointed toward Jesus. Starting your day in God’s Word is a great way to set your spiritual compass in the right direction.
Thank God for showing you the way to heaven. Thank God for the promises of heaven and the hope we have of spending eternity with Him.
