“let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works”

Matthew 5:16 (ESV)

It’s been said that bees can show you something about teamwork. On a warm day about half the bees in a hive stay inside beating their wings while the other half go out to gather pollen and nectar. Because of the beating wings, the temperature inside the hive is about 10 degrees cooler than outside. The bees rotate duties and the bees that cool the hive one day are honey gatherers the next. The fact that every bee has a job to do and whether or not they do their job is vital to the success and survival of the hive.

Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” In order to work together we need to know our individual jobs. Pastor Mike reminded us on Sunday that we each have our own light to shine and our own set of good works God has for us to accomplish. Our good works don’t make us right with God but they are essential to living out God’s design for our lives.

Discovering and living out God’s unique plan for our life is why we are here. There are plenty of viral videos of people who had one job to do and blew it. What do you think God’s primary job for you is currently? Take some time and ask God what job He wants you to focus on today.
