FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them.”
1 John 4:4-5 (NLT2)
A guy was shopping at a local grocery store. An older lady kept staring at him. Finally, she said, “You look so much like my late son. I know it’s silly, but if you call out ‘Goodbye, Mother’ as I leave, it would make me feel so happy.” The guy said, “I’ll be glad to do it.” The old lady proceeded through the checkout and as she left the supermarket, the man called out “Goodbye, Mother.” The older lady waved back and walked out the door. He was pleased that God used him to bring happiness to someone else. So, he goes to pay for his groceries. The cashier says, “That’ll be $362” The guy says “$362???? Why so much? I only bought a few things!” The cashier said, “Yeah, but your mother said you were also paying for her groceries.”
This week we’ve reviewed ways to make our lives deception proof. And today we wrap up with what may be the most important principle of all. 1 John 4:4 says, “But you belong to God, my dear children.” If we are God’s dear children, we don’t belong to the world and we shouldn’t embrace the world’s way of thinking when it comes to ideas and lifestyles that are contrary to the ways of God’s family.
As a part of God’s family, we have the Spirit in us who helps us win the war against the ways of the world. List some things that you think are the ways of the world. Which of those things are the biggest temptation for you to believe? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you victory over those beliefs.
