FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
We love each other because he loved us first.
1 John 4:19 (NLT)
WE GIVE BECAUSE IT DEMONSTRATES GOD’S LOVE
A Sunday School teacher was telling the story of the Good Samaritan to her class of 4-5 year olds. She was making it as vivid as possible to keep the children interested in her tale.
Then she asked the class, “If you saw a person lying on the roadside all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?” A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, “I think I’d throw up.”
Jesus taught the parable of the Good Samaritan to illustrate what it looks like when someone lives out the two greatest commandments. Those commandments are to love God and to love others. It’s not always easy to love others but it is always a reflection of who God is and how He feels about us. All week we have reviewed how the early church gave generously. The primary motivation for their giving was the love of God.
In the sermon, Mike share three priorities of care and giving:
- Take care of your family first. (1 Tim. 5:8)
- Take care of your spiritual family second. (Gal. 6:10)
- Take care of those God puts in your path. (Luke 10:25-37)
Which of these three areas is your strength? Which do you need to grow the most?
Thank God for loving you first. Ask God to help you recognize opportunities to give toward others as a way of showing His love.
