MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
Psalm 13:1 (NIV)
WALKING THROUGH TRAGEDY
Right after the 9/11 attacks, the president addressed the nation. He said, “A great people have been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot shake the foundation of America.” In other words, “even though we just experienced one of the worst days in American history, we’re going to make it. We’re going to survive because this nation is built on something solid. This nation has a sure foundation.” Twenty years later we continue to survive.
Psalm 13 is called a psalm of David. While we do not know the exact circumstances. We do know it was written during a time of persecution or suffering. We know the events tested the foundations of his belief system and his faith in God. David begins this psalm asking some very hard questions. David’s foundation helped him answer those questions and navigate what no doubt was a difficult season.
Mike reminded us in the sermon that no one goes untouched by tragedy. He also reminded us that the question isn’t, “Will I go through it?” The question is, “How will I get through it?” How has your Christian foundation helped you navigate the tragedies we’ve experienced lately as a nation and a community?
Mike challenged us to take some time and pause. Spend a little extra time in prayer and meditation today considering the character of God and asking for His foundational perspective in your heart and mind.
