MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one”
1 John 2:12-14 (ESV)
IDENTITY DETERMINES ACTIVITY
There was a famous preacher who visited a nursing home that had some patients with Alzheimer’s in it. As he was there, he went around and greeted the patients in this home. They were all very glad to see him. He walked up to one lady who seemed to be very excited at his presence. The preacher inquiring about her excitement asked, “Do you know who I am?”
The lady smiled and answered, “No, but if you go to the front desk, they can tell you.”
1 John is taking us back to the front desk spiritually to remind us who we are as Christians. 1 John 2:12-14 reminds us we are forgiven, we know the Creator, we are overcomers, we are strong, and God’s word abides in us. In summary, we have victory in Christ. We don’t get better and then come to Christ. But after we come to Christ, He makes us new creations and our daily activity changes.
Cole made it clear on Sunday that our identity determines our activity. Which of the identity reminders in 1 John motivates you the most to live for Christ? Which reminder did you most need to hear?
Thank God for your identity in Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live out who you already are in Christ.
