WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, 27 for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.
Finish My Course
This is an amazing passage that quite frankly runs in direct opposition to our human nature and to the ideology of our cultural moment. Did you catch Paul’s self-denying statement in verse 24? He states, “I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I have received from the Lord Jesus…”. Paul’s only aim is not to make much of himself and to make his life comfortable but to finish the course and ministry that God has given him!
This text challenges us to consider what is the ultimate aim of our lives. Is my life about me or is my life about God? Do I count my life as precious to myself or is Jesus my treasure? Is my priority obedience to God or comfort for myself?
May we hear the words of Paul today not to account our lives of any value nor precious to ourselves, if only we may finish our course and the ministry that we have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
What do you treasure? What would it look like to make Jesus your treasure?
Thank you for your Word. We pray that by your Spirit, Acts 20:24-27 would change us into the likeness of Christ. We pray that we would treasure you above all things. May we rejoice in your character and your work and give you all the attention and affection you deserve. Help us today to finish the course and ministry that you have given us! We pray all these things in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
