Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Years of Investment Can Be Destroyed in Seconds

Living in the Atlanta metro area I remember when the Georgia Dome was built. It was in 1992 and took two and a half years to construct. Foundation laid, cement poured, plumbing, electrical, seating, lighting, field preparation…the list was endless to erect such a massive structure.

However, in 2017 – 25 years later – I watched something that took two and a half years to build be reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds. All the blood, sweat, lives and tears invested into bringing this massive structure to being was gone in the blink of an eye.

Relationships and friendships are very similar. They can take years to develop, nurture and grow; however, it can only take seconds to destroy them, reduced to rubble by harmful, hurting and condemning words.

Words that tear people apart. Personal attacks. Character assassination. Reputations destroyed. Gossip. Rumors. Lies. Words of discouragement. Killers of hopes and dreams.

I remind each of us to be more cognizant of our words. Words are powerful. They have lasting impact. Make a commitment to be an encourager with your words; not discourage, tear down, reduce to rubble or destroy others in a matter of seconds.

Be a light in this dark and empty world we live in. Value your friends and relationships in your life. Encourage – Build up – Make an impact in 2020 that will far out live you.

Remember, what can take years to build up, can only take seconds to tear down and destroy.

Be Worth Being!
